Bachelor Of Architecture

The living spaces people inhabit deeply reflect the identity of a community. A student who takes up this course is provided the conceptual tools for creating and then encouraged to imagine and innovate interesting living spaces.

The course involves the students in a set of activities where they have to use their imagination to aesthetically reinvent the spaces around them. A recent project for designing the marine drive in Kottayam has involved the creative capacities of students undergoing the course.

Students will have regular workshops conducted by the doyens of architecture in the campus which will help broaden their perspective of the contemporary architectural practices. Additionally they will also be provided with insights into various traditional forms of architecture. Adhering to our philosophy of an organic learning process they shall be introduced to a series of literature or cinema which deal with the aspect of creating spaces for living.

Architecture is part of the creative world. The student’s exposure to other forms of learning shall be emphasised through literary works or other disciplines which can interpret architecture and help to understand the creative and psychological processes involved. The course thus departs from the traditional understanding of architecture by designing a learning process which will encourage each student to be themselves master builders of the world.

Vagamon is also home to inspirational innovator architect Laurie Becker, who is reverentially referred to as the ‘Gandhi of Architecture’. The students shall also be part of CTAR - The Centre for Tropical Architecture. The centre comprises of a group of eminent tropical architects and academicians researching on sustainable tropical design.
