Abstract

Among Kerala’s tranquil landscape of hills, DCSMAT Vagamon leads the way in rural tech education’s transformation. This article highlights three critical research and innovation initiatives: creating a Mini Center of Excellence (CoE) for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, encouraging student research in analytics, and fostering open-source contributions. By integrating international tech practices into a completely residential rural campus, DCSMAT equips undergraduates to be researchers, innovators, and drivers of the digital future. This can be taken as an example by Tier-3 institutions in India that wish to improve their research culture.

Introduction

DCSMAT Vagamon is revolutionizing the academic discourse with its efforts to emerge as a hub for technology-driven research and innovation in rural Kerala. With its already illustrious BCA course, the institution is further expanding to establish a Mini Center of Excellence in AI and Data Science. Realizing the growing need for “best BCA colleges in Kerala” and “AI college in Kerala”, the initiative fills the gap between theoretical academic education and practical innovation.

Establishing a Mini Center of Excellence in AI & Data Science

The planned Center of Excellence (CoE) is an innovation catalyst both for students and faculty members. With NVIDIA-powered computing nodes, Python/R-based analytics tools, and specially curated datasets, the center will enable project-based learning in predictive modeling, machine learning, and ethics AI.

It also provides cross-disciplinary research possibilities with the management school, combining business insight with data science, allowing students to create real-world forecasting models and AI-driven automation systems.

Student-Led Research: Data Analytics from a Rural Lens

Notwithstanding its geographical placement, DCSMAT’s BCA students work on exploratory research in various areas such as environmental data, regional e-commerce analysis, and smart- agri technologies.
