Brig MC Ashok Kumar (Retd) is an officer with a rich experience of 35 years in the Indian Army and another 12 years in the corporate/educational sector. His areas of expertise include military operations including Counter Insurgency operations, strategic management, logistics and supply chain management, organisational behaviour, human resources management and general administration.
He holds a post graduate degree in Military Science (graded outstanding) from Madras University, and another in Management Sciences from Osmania University, with a grade of “First Class with Distinction’.
He is also a graduate of prestigious tri-service institutions, Defence Services Staff College and College of Defence Management.
Commissioned in the Infantry in 1972, the officer has varied experience in the field, counter insurgency operations and other military operations. As a battalion Commander he led an operation in 1993 into the Kapran Valley (South Kashmir), tracked and captured the dreaded Pakistani militant Nasrulla Mansoor Langrial, self styled commander-in-chief of HUJI ( Harkat-ul Jihad Islami), who was responsible for the massacre of 30 BSF soldiers a couple of months earlier.
He has also served as a faculty in premier training institutes of Tri-Services including the Infantry School, Defence Services Staff College and the College of Defence Management. In the latter he was the Head of the Dept of HRD in the Faculty of Organisational Behaviour.
The officer had also served with the United Nations in Namibia (UNTAG) as military observer in 1989-90. His service in the corporate sector includes a tenure as Vice Chairman of Canteen Stores Dept and State Head of Supply Chain (Kerala), Reliance Retail.
From 2009 till 2021, he has been the Director and subsequently Group Director and Dean Operations of DCSMAT Institutions (except for a sabbatical of one year in between).
