Qua Vadis ? : How many times have we come across these statements that the new recruit “ was good but not fit for the role”, “Is delivering but not flexible”, “Does not listen, Does not try to understand” and so on and so forth. . The sum total is that dissatisfaction grows within the organisation , team or the senior management against the new recruit.  If one attempts to seek the other “ new recruits” version of the story , it would sound like “ I am like this  and you recruited me for these qualities” ,”I have my ways of doing” and a majority would say “This is not what I thought I would be doing”

So my friend let us then look at two factors here for better induction to your organisation , wherever you are heading.

  1. Direction (alignment) :  As much as the magnitude of the skill you possess, an equally important factor is the direction or alignment  with the job role. One has to be very careful in understanding the role that you are taking up and how that aligns with your ambitions and aspirations.
  1. Mindset : It is very important that one needs to be open to feedback , learning, comments and course corrections. A lot of people think that management means a rigid framework of rules and regulations etc and they self-assume their model and style of management rather than evolve into an appropriate model

So if we are to make an ideal skill recipe for creating a good professional, this would look like the following,

  • Numerical and analytical (nutritious value)
  • logic and reasoning (essential but to taste)
  • Commonsense unadulterated (the medium)
  • Theoretical knowledge (base flavour)
  • Communication abilities (presentability)
  • People skills (Filler stuff)

Many times we find that these are shortcomings that can be addressed when we are grooming students to take up this profession. To give a birds eye view of how a MBA student is groomed to again the requisite skills is as follows.
